Hi! My name is Jane Johnson and I am the New Behavior Coach!
I am so excited to be a part of the Colonel Smith Middle School Team.
I was born in Bogota Colombia, adopted at a young age and grew up in Newton Massachusetts. I met my husband at Springfield College, we have 5 children and we are a military family. We have been living here is AZ for just over a year. Last year I was the Behavior Coach at Colonel Johnston Elementary School.
My background for my career you ask, well....
I have been working with children since I was legally able to work. I started off at the summer camp that I actually went to when I was young. While I worked there I met a child who changed my life. I went to college and studied Therapeutic Recreation and Child life. During college I again worked at a summer camp. It is located in NH and called Camp Starfish. Camp Starfish is an overnight camp that serves children that have one or more of the following: Anxiety, ADHD, learning disabilities, autism (mild-severe), defiance, anger problems, sensory processing/ integration disorder, depression, bipolar, and more. I started as one of the program counselors and then was promoted to the Program Director. After working there for many years I went on to work at Newton North High School as a Student Aide. The next year I was promoted to an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Therapist. I did that for many years and even worked at Newton South and Newton North at the same time in the same position. During the summer I worked at another camp called Camp Hawkeye. This camp brings children from all over the world with varying backgrounds. I was again the Program Director. Then I took some years off to raise my children and now my youngest is in Kindergarten so I am back to doing what I love, working with children and showing/teaching them how to achieve their full potential.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you have any questions please feel free to call or email me any time!
